THE QUEST

Sighting Your Childhood Goals

Approximately 6-10% of Americans actually attain their childhood goals. – REALLY?👀

I personally think is far below that. But, at this time, I only have data from a random web search to talk about it. 🙈

Professionally, when I was a kid I wanted to be a beautician. Luckily for my community, I ended up in healthcare and not in a beauty salon! You can be certain I am no help in matters of beauty and fashion!

Trust me!

…I also loved writing… I always thought I would publish a book someday… But, in turn, I ended with an over 200 pages masters thesis; which was probably only read by my adviser!

For a while now, I had been “coqueteando” (flirting) with this particular childhood dream and the idea of creating a blog.

I remember my first grade teacher (Mrs. Berrios), once asked us to write a story looking at a landscape picture, and I came up with a poem. She made a big deal about it! So, after that, I swapped between classrooms carrying my little unpublished “poetry book”. It was simply a cardboard folder with a bunch of drawings with a few stanzas all stapled together…

On the cover “Mis Poemas”❤️

I continued to write when my hormones flourished in later years. It was a perfect way to manage my teenage feelings as I was growing up caring for my 96 year old great grand mother.

Anyway, later on, I went into a science-focused carrier. Writing became a little farther and farther every time. I became more skeptic, concrete, and fact oriented every day – not that this is a bad thing; it’s actually inherited from my Dad!!!

The point is, somehow I slowly walked away from that want…in the end we all make choices as we grow hoping these choices will make our lives easier, successful and happier.

Now, 30 years later, we are striving through this pandemic…which has confronted me to the beginnings of my quest. We have all been running away from this virus for months, while at the same time, we have been unconsciously forced to run towards our inner self.

While reflecting on this I came across a speech by Randy Pausch that reminded me of other childhood dreams, but more so, of how I want to live. Inspired by him I decided to write them down. https://www.google.com.pr/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwjox6jz-arrAhXkzVkKHaDEAo0QFjABegQIDBAK&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dji5_MqicxSo&usg=AOvVaw3MDC2xcyL-gBfc9lSHqs0v,

My childhood dreams

Be an actress or a ballerina

Own the Barbie Dreamhouse

Have a younger sibling

Publish a book

Have extremely long hair and long nails like a diva!

It took me a while to go back and rescue them in my memories. Writing them made me feel happy, honest, simple and refreshed! I laughed when I read them back to myself.

This week I look at how I rescue one of this forgotten wishes: WRITING! But also I reflect on how to have fun and have a better life by pursing this dream…

So my QUESTion to you is:

Can you look back to your dreams as a child?

Can you still convert any of your childhood wants into something attainable and real today?
